Sunday 30th November 2008 Chelsea 1 Arsenal 2 Attendance: 41,760 Two goals in three minutes from Robin van Persie gave Arsenal victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea went 1-0 up thanks to a mistake by Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia threw the ball out to nobody in particular, giving possession to Chelsea. A resulting cross from Jose Boswinga was then put in the net by Arsenal's Johan Djourou to complete the comedy of errors. Van Persie's first goal on 59 minutes looked miles offside, but his second just three minutes later was a worthy winner of a London derby. Wednesday 29th October 2008 Arsenal 4 Spurs 4 Attendance: 60,043 Spurs staged a gobsmacking comeback in the final minutes of the first North London derby of the season to snatch a 4-4 draw from what looked like certain defeat. A quite incredible 40 yard volley from David Bentley gave Spurs the lead after 13 minutes, but two headed goals, Mikaël Silvestre on 37 minutes and William Gallas a minute into the second half (why does Gomes come out for everything?) put Arsenal into the driving seat. When Emmanuel Adebayor made it 3-1 on 64 minutes it looked like Arsenal would romp home. Substitute Darren Bent gave Tottenham hope when he turned in a fumbled shot, but within a minute Arsenal had a fourth thanks to a Robin van Persie netbuster. At 4-2 down with a minute to go Jermaine Jenas curled in a beauty to make it 4-3. And then the almost unbelievable. With seconds left of injury time, Luka Modric hit the post and Aaron Lennon pounced to make it 4-4. I don't know about Harry Houdini. More like Tottenham Houdini. ![]() Arsenal FC licensed 4ft Table Football £89.99 more details Sunday 26th October 2008 West Ham 0 Arsenal 2 Attendance: 34,802 Arsenal beat West Ham 2-0 at Upton Park to go top of the London Bragging Rights League on Sunday. A deflected own goal by Julien Faubert broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when it looked like the game was heading towards a goalless draw. Emmanuel Adebayor made it 2-0 in injury time when he latched on to a long ball forward and rounded West Ham's Robert Green to put the ball into the net. And did Carlton Cole really deserve a straight red in the dying seconds of the match for that sliding tackle on Alex Song? Unlikely. Saturday, 23rd August 2008 Fulham 1 Arsenal 0 Attendance: 25, 276 Fulham upset the odds to claim bragging rights over Arsenal with a 1-0 win at Craven Cottage. Brede Hangeland scored the only goal after 21 minutes, slotting the ball home from close range from a Fulham corner, to give the Cottagers their first London derby victory for what seems like donkey's years. The Cottagers turning over the Gunners means the West London club are top of the London Bragging Rights League. Early doors yet though. |
2008-2009 London Bragging Rights League
Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose. Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights. |
