Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Newly promoted Chelsea remained unbeaten against London opposition during the 1984-1985 League season to win bragging rights for the first time in 1966. Two wins and six draws did the business in what was a very tight race.

Spurs fans might beg to differ because they put Chelsea out of the FA Cup, beating them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge after a 1-1 draw at the Lane.

So might Third Division Millwall. Their reward for beating Second Division Crystal Palace 2-1 away after a 1-1 at The Den was an away trip to Chelsea which they won 3-2.

QPR survived the drop to Division Two by a single point - and have their good form against London opposition (they were unbeaten at home against them) for survival.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
