Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Arsenal were the best team in London for the fourth season in a row, something not seen since the legendary 1930s days.

Palace fans might disagree though. They were unbeaten against London opposition during the 1979-1980 season and beat Arsenal 1-0 at Selhurst Park. Problem is that was their only win against fellow London teams and Arsenal 's only League defeat.

West Ham fans might disagree too after the Second Division side beat Arsenal 1-0 in the FA Cup Final. But as far as bragging rights go you have to be top flight to be the best team. And West Ham lost to every Second Division London side during the 1979-1980 campaign.

So Arsenal it is.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
