Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Rarely does a team dominate the capital's football scene like Arsenal did during the 1978-1979 season.

Don't get me wrong because Arsenal had a good season, finishing seventh and beating Manchester United 3-2 to win the FA Cup
, but it's equally true that the other top flight London clubs had a bad season.

Particularly bad if you followed Chelsea or QPR who were both relegated. Bad too if you supported Spurs and had to live with the nightmare of losing 5-0 at home to Arsenal just two days before Christmas Day. In fact Arsenal put five past both QPR and Chelsea too during the League campaign.

In the Cup, QPR got a taste of Second Division life when Fulham knocked them out in the Third Round with a 2-0 scoreline at Craven Cottage.

Better news fo Palace fans. Crystal Palace were promoted to Division One as Second Division Champions.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
