Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Less than ten years ago, QPR won their first majoe trophy, the League Cup
. They did so as Third Division Champions and now xcome the 1975-1976 season they were just a point away from being crowned League Champions.

Unfortunately their form against fellow London teams - just two wins out of six - probably cost them the title.

By contrast, West Ham's form against London opposition probably saved them from the drop. They lost just once - a 6-1 thrashing at Highbury - and were the best team overall in London for the season.

In the League Cup Fourth Round, West Ham drew 0-0 at Spurs before losing the replay 2-0 after extra time at Upton Park.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
