Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Tottenham Hotspur were the best team in London during the 1974-1975 season, although nationally it was a prety poor year for London football.

QPR finished 11th in the First Division
- the highest of any London club in a season that saw Chelsea relegated and Spurs avoid relegation by a single point.

Against their London rivals, Spurs came out on top though.

The FA Cup provided West Ham with their second Cup Final win in what was an all London affair. The Hammers beat Fulham 2-0 at Wembley at the end of a Cup run that included a 2-1 home win over QPR and a 2-0 away win at the Arsenal.

Earlier in the season, Second Division Fulham had beaten West Ham 2-1 at home. Fellow Second Division side Orient also held QPR to a 1-1 at Loftus Road before losing 3-0 in the replay.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
