Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Spurs were the best team in London during the 1966-1967 season. They finished third in the League and beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley to win the FA Cup. They also beat Second Division Millwall 1-0 after a 0-0 draw at The Den on their way to Cup glory.

West Ham reached the Semi Finals of the League Cup beating Spurs 1-0 and Arsenal 3-1 before losing to the team that beat them in the Final the year before, WBA.

Also in the League Cup, Fulham beat Crystal Palace 2-0 and Chelsea beat Charlton 5-2. But it was Third Division Champions Queens Park Rangers who walked away with the silverware when they held the League Cup high after beating WBA 3-2 in the Final.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
