Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Some will know doubt claim the best team in London at the end of the 1965-1966 season was the one that beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time at Wembley on the 30th of July. An England team that incidentally contained three West Ham players Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters - who provided all four goals - and Fulham's George Cohen.

But it was Chelsea who were to take bragging rights for the domestic season in London.

In the FA Cup, Chelsea again went out in the Semi Finals, while in the Leaghue Cup West Ham went a step further - losing 5-3 on aggregate to WBA in the League Cup Final which was stuill being played over two legs.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose.

Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights unless Cup football provides the decider.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
