Football Bragging Rights

When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.

It's all about bragging rights.

Tottenham Hotspur FC. By far the greatest team the world will ever see. During the 1960-1961 double winning season anyway.

As well as finishing up as Champions, they dropped just one point to London opposition all season when they drew 0-0 at Fulham (a team whose home form saved them from relegation incidentally).

West Ham also thrashed Arsenal 6-0 to record one of the biggest wins over a top flight London club by another top flight club.

In the Cup, Spurs beat Charlton Athletic 3-2 in the Third Round and went on to beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Final to claim a historic League and Cup double. The first ever by a London club.

For the other London clubs, the FA Cup was a washout with all four First Division teams from London falling at the first hurdle. In fact apart from Spurs, only Leyton Orient got past the Third Round.

Most embarrassing of all was Chelsea's 2-1 home defeat to Fourth Division Crewe Alexandra.

Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose. Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights.

Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
