When it comes to football, winning trophies is all very well, but what really matters is who can go into work on a Monday morning with their head held high after a derby game.
It's all about bragging rights. |

You wouldn't guess it from the above head to head results, but Charlton Athletic finished the 1949-1950 season just one place and three points above the drop zone.
Given that The Addicks were unbeaten in eight derby games - they beat Fulham 2-1 in the Cup after a 2-2 draw, they were clear winners of the bragging rights.
Arsenal won the Cup, beating Chelsea in the Semi-Finals 1-0 after extra time following a 2-2 draw - but beating northerners (in this case Liverpool) doesn't really cut it locally.
Tottenham Hotspur were Division Two Champions meaning that no less than five London clubs would be playing top flight football come the 1950-1951 season.
| Three points for a win, one for a draw, sweet FA for a lose. Should two or more teams have the same number of points, goal difference decides bragging rights.
Although in the good old days, clubs only received two points for a win in the League, the importance of beating your rivals means that no matter the season, three points for a win applies in the London Bragging Rights League.
